Healing from Trauma

“As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than there is wrong, no matter what is wrong.”

Krogius Psychotherapy is conveniently located on the East Side of Milwaukee, and we are easily accessible from Downtown and the Northshore area. The clinic is situated in a historic renovated building on the corner of E. North and N. Farwell Avenues.

I take a strength-based approach that is grounded in the principles of self-determination, resilience and the belief in one’s innate ability to heal. I believe that as the body has a built in capacity to heal itself, so does the mind. Everything we need to be our best selves, is already inside of us. Sometimes, the biggest challenge is to recognize our internal resources and access them.

My practice is centered on adults who experienced significant adversity growing up. Adversity might be in the form of physical and/or emotional harm. Growing evidence, however, shows that neglect and living with inattentive caregivers who are inconsistent in their interactions with children, getting mixed messages about which parts of them are welcome, create problematic attachment patterns. Those of us who were raised by "scaregivers," or "frightened and frightening" parent figures developed relational templates that we carry into adulthood, which limit our ability to show up as our whole selves and live life to the fullest.

I specialize in managing severe symptoms that might interfere with daily functioning across settings. I help people understand and make sense of symptoms, such as intrusive thoughts and recollections, flashbacks, dissociation, hallucinations, delusions, self-sabotaging behaviors, mood swings, intense emotions, and a compromised sense of self.

In our work together, we will collaborate to update those relationship templates in a way that helps heal relational injuries and attachment wounds. You will learn to foster compassion and unconditional love for yourself and your younger parts.
